Many people have asked why we changed our name? We are no longeraffiliated with Quail Unlimited for several reasons. We have attempted to give you anabbreviatedbackground.
1. In addition to annual dues,QUrequires that each chapter send 40% of the funds that the local chapterraisesto QUNationalCovey Headquartersin EdgefieldS.C.
2. This money is used by QUandI will leave it to them to communicate how the money is spent. www.QU.org
3. Prior to Park Cities QU, there had not been an active chapter in the Dallas area formany years.
5. In the first three years, our Park CitiesQU groupraised$45,000,$654,000 and$328,000 makingPCQU the largest start up, and by far the largest chapter in theUSA in years 2 and3.
6. Under the40%standard payment, wewould havegiven QU national $419,000. This is$321,000 more than weactuallygaveQU National because of our special agreement.
7. Thisspecialagreementenergized our members andallowedPark Cities QU to donate $900,000over the past three yearsto the Rolling Plains Quail Research Ranch in Roby, TXwww.quailresearch.org
8. PCQUoffered for QU to join us in taking the credit for the good work beingdone at the RPQRR as we did with the2008check presentation.
9. In mid-2009, National QU, encumbered by a significant debt and a budget shortfall, announced to us that they would end the special arrangement for PCQU. Starting in July ‘09, we would have been forced to contribute the standard 40% to National.
Unlike most other quail conservation organizations we believe in a model with minimal administrative overhead and zero debt. PQU believes that more research is needed to reverse the decline in the quail population in Texas and we can directly see the benefits of the ground breaking research Dr. Dale Rollins and his team is performing at the RPQRR.
All this has lead to a very simple and unanimous decision by the PCQU Committee. In accordance with our bylaws and QU rules, on we dissolved our chapter #791and after maximizing our donations to RPQRR, we donated the remaining $1,000 in our treasury to QU.
In June of 2009, we applied for a 501(C) 3 under the name “Quail Coalition” and we are doing business as Park Cities Quail. This new organization has the same committee and the same sponsors. The response has been tremendous. We will strive to remain 100% volunteer in order that every dollar raised will contribute to our mission. “To sustain and restore huntible wild quail populations; to encourage and educate interested youth in upland game, the outdoors, and the sport; to celebrate our quail hunting heritage in this region” We are committed to the work being performed by the RPQRR and the Texas Bobwhite Brigade.
As of December 2009, we have been joined by the rest of the former QU chapters in Texas. Learn more at www.quailcoalition.org.
